Center for Learning Connections presents: Payne Learning Needs Inventory (PLNI) Training
Who should attend? Secondary and post-secondary teachers, counselors, and faculty, disability and rehabilitation providers, social workers and case managers, psychologists and mental health counselors, human services providers, workforce and career specialists, human resources personnel, job coaches, and trainers.
Training will focus on how to administer and review the results of the Payne Learning Needs Inventory (PLNI). Using sample cases, participants will become practiced in using the PLNI and summary protocols including identification of methods, techniques and accommodations that lead to effective counseling, training, teaching, and/or supervising methods. Resources and referrals will be presented.
The critical value of this training is being able to interact, understand, and truly assist individuals who have non-apparent disabilities, below average performance, learning/training difficulties, and other observable behaviors and characteristics without asking about “disabilities.” The functional aspects of exploring strengths, limitations and what can work to improve performance and function produces a more precise and direct diversity and inclusion model leading to improved training, instruction, counseling, coaching, and performance.
Participants will be expected to review a brief information/background packet as pre-work to prepare for the workshop. The packet will consist of types/definitions of learning disabilities, attention disorders and other non-apparent disabilities together with the associated characteristics and manifestations common to individuals who have or are thought to have special needs.
• Learn to use and apply the Payne Learning Needs Inventory with individuals who have or are suspected of having special learning needs
• Expand knowledge of definitions of learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other non-apparent disabilities
• Understand objective informal assessment techniques involved in using an informal interview strategy
• Discover approaches, techniques and accommodations for counseling, training, teaching and/or working methods
• Know how to use and apply the accommodation manuals
• Understand how to develop necessary resources and referrals
